James Carman was born and raised in New Brunswick, NJ. Attended Rutgers University before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1958. After completing his military obligation, worked for the City of New Brunswick, NJ Fire Department for 30 years before retiring in 1991 as Fire Director. James relocated to West Palm Beach, FL in 1991, as an Assistant Fire Chief in the West Palm Beach Fire Rescue, and appointed to Fire Chief in 1994. Chief Carman served until 2001 in West Palm Beach Fire Rescue, WPB, FL. During his time in West Palm Beach he has served as a board member in many non-profit organizations such as United Way of PBC, American Heart Association, Boys & Girls Clubs of PBC, Zoning Board of Appeals in WPB, Nonprofits First, and Northwest Community Consortium, Inc.
